P10 LED Scrolling Board Assembly & Installation in Kattappana: A Real-World Project

Halo Technologies assembled and installed two outdoor P10 single-color scrolling boards near New Bus Stand, Kattappana: a horizontal red display and a vertical yellow display. This case study documents the work with our assembly photograph and workshop and installation footage.

Project requirement

The customer needed outdoor displays for service information and promotional messages that could change without replacing a printed sign. The installation used two formats: a long horizontal red board above the entrance and a narrow vertical yellow board.

The completed video records both displays running at night. The project dimensions, construction details and handover process described here come from our project record; the media shows the assembly work and the operating installation.

P10 module and display configuration

General explanation: P10 refers to a 10 mm pixel pitch, the spacing between adjacent pixels. A single-color board displays its content in one LED colour. These boards are intended for scrolling text and messages; they are different from full-color LED video walls used for video and other visual content. Meiyad’s single-color module specifications provide a manufacturer reference for the 10 mm pitch and 32 × 16 cm module format.

For display size, pitch selection, message readability and controller options, see our LED scrolling-display service guide.

This project: the horizontal display uses red LEDs and the vertical display uses yellow LEDs. Modules were arranged to suit each board’s shape and orientation.

Depending on availability and project requirements, Halo Technologies uses P10 modules from suppliers such as Colorstar, Meiyad and Qiangli. This is a description of our sourcing options, not a claim that all three brands were used in these two displays.

Building the scrolling board in our assembly section

We prepared the required frame in our assembly section, using approximately 1 × 1.5 inch aluminium with a black powder-coated finish. The P10 modules were mounted in the frame before the rear was closed.

The assembly photograph shows why the open-back stage matters: module mounting, power wiring, ribbon connections and the areas being sealed are accessible together. The GI rear cover was fitted only after the inspection and testing stages.

Rear-side wiring and controller installation

Power wiring and data/ribbon connections were completed at the rear of the modules. A HUIDU Wi-Fi controller was installed and configured to run the scrolling content. SMPS capacity was selected for the required display load.

The power-supply quantity, electrical ratings and circuit details are not specified in this case study. Electrical inspection and testing formed part of the professional assembly process; the photograph is a record of work in progress, not a mains-wiring guide.

Outdoor weather protection for Idukki conditions

Seasonal rain is an important consideration for outdoor installations in Kattappana and Idukki. Water protection therefore received attention before the back cover was closed.

Halo Technologies has used silicone sealing around vulnerable rear-side areas of outdoor LED boards since 2018. This practice developed from our outdoor installation experience and forms part of our assembly process.

For this installation, we applied silicone at vulnerable rear module areas and used additional suitable sealing or taping where necessary. After inspection and testing, the GI rear cover was closed. The photograph and workshop video show the rear-side sealing stage.

Workshop footage shows silicone being worked around rear module areas alongside the power wiring and ribbon connections. Cropped to focus on the assembly; audio removed.

Sealing is one part of the water-ingress protection approach. We do not assign an unverified IP rating or claim that this process guarantees waterproofing or a particular service life.

Testing before closing the cabinet

Before closing the rear, our checks covered LED operation and brightness, wiring inspection, controller and data connections, and scrolling-content operation. The sealing work was also inspected.

  1. Inspect LED operation and brightness across the display.
  2. Inspect the completed wiring and check controller/data operation.
  3. Run the scrolling content and check the displayed output.
  4. Inspect the sealing work before closing the GI rear cover.

These were workshop checks followed by a final operational test at the installation site. No numerical brightness measurement or waterproof test result is claimed here.

Mobile content updating with the HUIDU Wi-Fi controller

A compatible application was installed and configured on the customer’s mobile phone. During handover, we explained how to change the board’s displayed content using the controller’s local Wi-Fi connection.

The customer can update services, announcements, promotional messages and offers. This project uses local Wi-Fi/mobile-app content management; it is not presented as an internet or cloud-based remote-update installation.

Final installation near New Bus Stand, Kattappana

After workshop testing and rear-cover closure, the boards were installed near New Bus Stand and checked in operation. The two views below come from the same original installation video: the horizontal red board first, followed by the vertical yellow board.

Vertical yellow P10 scrolling board at the same installation, nominally 3 ft high × 1 ft wide. A separate crop from the same original night video keeps the operating display in view and excludes nearby people.

The excerpts are cropped for privacy and focus, and contain no audio. The scrolling messages and LED colours are retained from the original footage. The project text provides the context for readers who do not play the videos.

What this real installation demonstrates

A working scrolling board involves more than choosing modules. This project took the requirement through frame preparation, module mounting, power and data connections, rear-side weather sealing, controller configuration, workshop testing, rear closure, site installation and customer handover.

The practical connection between those stages is visible in the evidence: the rear assembly is accessible during sealing and inspection, while the final video shows the two different display formats operating. Teaching the customer to change messages was part of completing the job.

Practical installation tips

  • Decide whether the content needs simple scrolling text or full-color images and video.
  • Plan the board orientation around the available installation space.
  • Include content-updating instruction in the handover.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating a single-color scrolling board as interchangeable with a full-color video wall.
  • Assuming local Wi-Fi content updating means internet-based remote control.
